People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you learn to appreciate them when they're right. You believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself.

INFLUENCE

Most of the time I consider myself as a person who doesn't easily idolize people. But when it comes for me to adore people, I can utterly in awe of them. So far there are only two people who grab my attention since I was in elementary school. The Olsen twins. I was smitten with not only their stunning looks, but also their endeavours that have always shown up. I've admired them to the point that I followed their hairstyle (before I've worn hijab of course) and was one of the first people who bought their book by the time it was sold in Indonesia. Ha! Now you will probably see me as their freaky fan, huh?

Anyhow, I won't tell you any further about the shameful things that I did when I was too much in awe of them. It wasn't my purpose to write this post. Instead, I want to share about their book, Influence, that I bought several years ago. Although it didn't cross my mind to show you what's inside the book, I once posted some photo of their cover book. After it has been a while since the last time I opened it, I read it back yesterday and found more inspirations. Then suddenly the notion of showing them to you has appeared.

The book doesn't actually explain about the Olsens. Instead, it tends to give us more information about the people who influence them. At first, it was boring. But after I try to read the conversation between the twin and them, I figured it out why they could inspire the Olsens. They are the influential people who are all hugely successful in their fields, from photographer, designer, artist until architect. I guess you are already familiar with some of them. Besides, a few I found interesting enough to read every word. Believe in your dreams, be your own best friend, set goals in your life, find the job that you really love, are some good lessons that I get from them.

It's weird...

that all i want right now is to have the ability to leap through time, whether with Doraemon's time machine or Adam Sandler's magical remote control. Then it will send me to a particular time and when that time comes I will miss the times before it, including this time. I know it's probably foolishness but I just can't help myself to think if those magical things really exist, there would be so much more unsolved problems that left behind. You see, this day without the time machine and remote control, there are already tons of people who runaway from their problems. Well, can you imagine if they really exist?

12 - 13 Mei 2012

South Borneo Through My Eyes

Every city has got its own special feeling that I get every time I take the first step out onto the street. The best part of it is when I see something beautiful yet extraordinary through my eyes. It doesn't always have to be a natural scenery, magnificent modern buildings, old-fashioned architecture or anything else that most people looking for when traveling. Instead, the unintentional day sight could be the best moment to be seized. Here, I'm gonna show you some things that grab my attention during my trip in Banjarmasin.

The famous Kain Sasirangan (tie-dyed fabric)

Banjarmasin city view from Duta Mall

Banjarmasin is probably best known for its great potential in mining, but maybe not in tourism. Whether it's for tourists or local people, there isn't much choice. They say Kota Intan Martapura, Sultan Suriansyah Mosque, Barito Bridge, Kembang Island and Muara Kuin Floating Market are the tourist attractions. However, none of them satisfied me enough. Besides, there's only a mall and local eateries as the recreational and social place for local people. Since it's a provincial capital of South Kalimantan, it wouldn't be enough to fulfill the recreational needs of the citizens.

Floating market is my only hope that this city could give me a sense of satisfaction. My friends have warned me, though. That I shouldn't have high expectations on it because the reality is much different from what we saw on one of the private television stations in Indonesia. And they were right, I hadn't thoroughly enjoyed it. In either way, I was filled in awe as the transactions were started and the sight of some boats piled high with any kind of goods, from tropical fruits and vegetables until local foods. Really, I don't have any idea why on earth the local government can't see the great potential behind it? The way that indigenous people still preserve their cultural heritage could also be a major potential for local tourism if only the government really want to develop it. Unless they think that the slum area along the river is the view that is expected for tourists, or, it's the local people who do not want the development.
