Ever since he started standing and walking (with help) last month, K has been constantly on the move. He rarely stays still and already has a few favorite spots around the house: the makeup table, our bedroom window, and the fridge. He’s also fascinated by the microwave and enjoys watching it while food is being warmed up. One thing that makes us laugh is how he smiles and giggles whenever we show him photos or videos of himself, almost as if he recognizes that it’s him. During video calls, he has also become much more expressive and chatty. At the same time, leaving him alone, even briefly, has become harder because his separation anxiety is becoming more noticeable. Another thing that amazes me at this stage is how easily he can spot tiny hidden objects.
Although caring for him has become more physically tiring now that he’s constantly active, I actually enjoy this stage far more than the newborn phase. I think it’s because he now feels more like his own little person, making everyday interactions so much more enjoyable and less draining. One of my favorite things is that K has started kissing my cheeks. We often sing the “open and shut” part from The Wheels on the Bus while he does it, and now whenever I sing “open and shut,” he immediately opens his mouth and leans in to kiss my cheek. It’s become such a sweet little habit between us. :))
