I think somewhere between K turning nine months and now, I started mixing up his milestones because I barely wrote any of them down.
Like how I forgot when he simply stopped being able to stay still. Even for a few seconds, I’ll find him crawling right behind me, pulling himself up with one or both hands on the TV console, or cruising along the edge of his playpen or bed. Or when he started to love watching me playing Domikado with him and gets especially excited whenever I say, “Cis cis, one, two, three…” before eagerly reaching out for a high five. Or when he developed a rather “weird” obsession with toes and legs. He would crawl across the room just to grab our toes or try to put his mouth on our knees. I also can't remember since when he doesn’t want a pacifier for comfort whenever he's with me. Yet when someone else offers it, he usually accepts without complaint.
Like how I forgot when he became fascinated with shadows. He especially loves it when I shape my fingers into birds, crocodiles, or snakes. He would burst into giggles whenever I mimicked bird sounds while moving the shadow closer to him. He also enjoys reaching for his own shadow and playing with it. One day, I shone a light through his stackers with star-shaped, dotted, and other patterned holes, projecting the shapes onto our bedroom ceiling. He was completely amazed. But more than that, he seemed determined to figure out where the shapes were coming from. Once he realized it was the light, he immediately tried to reach for it, almost as if he was testing his own hypothesis.
Around this time, I’m also feeling more at ease these days because he finally seems to recognize hunger. His appetite has grown significantly, and he enjoys eating much more than before. Along with that, my motivation to experiment with new recipes has returned too.
